Life or Film is a documentary portrait of filmmaker Dušan Hanák. Through a mosaic of memories, films, and encounters, it paints a portrait of an artist for whom cinema was never merely a craft, but a way of searching for truth, freedom, and humanity. The film revisits the works that shaped Slovak cinema, the people and subjects pushed to the margins of public attention, and the moment when Hanák chose to save his own life instead of making another film. Gentle, playful, and infused with subtle humor, it explores his unique method of collecting fragments of life and asks what remains urgent and relevant in his world today.
