About us

HITCHHIKER Cinema is an independent production company founded in Bratislava in 2012 by producer Barbara Janišová Feglová. We develop and produce fiction films and series, creative documentaries and hybrid projects. We seek stories with a distinctive authorial voice that respond sensitively to the world we live in and can connect with audiences internationally.

We work with experienced filmmakers as well as emerging talent. We value long-term creative relationships and aim to create space for new voices. Our productions include A Hole in the Head, Lines, Pongo Calling, Gritty Eyes and Ms. President, which won the Opus Bonum Award at Ji.hlava IDFF and the Slovak national film award Sun in a Net for Best Documentary. Our films have been presented at major international festivals, including DOK Leipzig, Sheffield DocFest, Ji.hlava IDFF and Tallinn Black Nights.

We are currently developing fiction features, creative documentaries and scripted series with partners across Europe. We are drawn to personal stories rooted in places on the periphery of Slovakia and Europe—stories that engage with subjects we are only beginning to learn how to discuss without simplifying them.

Barbara Janišová Feglová

In 1990, Barbara graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, Slovakia with a degree in Film Theory and Criticism. With experience in film journalism, scriptwriting and PR, she has been working as a producer since 2006 and is the co-founder of CHARACTER - Film Development Association, which focuses on education in the field of film and the support of auteur audio-visual projects in their development phase and their alternative distribution. In 2012, she founded the production company HITCHHIKER Cinema, focusing on socially engaging topics. In 2018, HITCHHIKER Cinema received the Best Documentary Film award at the Sun in a Net, Slovak national film awards, for the film A Hole in the Head (Diera v hlave, 2016). She is a member of the Slovak Film and Television Academy and she is one of Emerging Producers of 2018 within the industry platform of Ji.hlava IDFF.

Roman Pivovarník

Roman Pivovarník has a degree in Film Production from the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. During his six years of studies, he produced 20 short student films/assignments. His film Views is his second student film in the position of writer/director. He works for HITCHHIKER Cinema as a junior producer and is one of the first film eco-consultants in Slovakia.
