"I believe in the healing power of a story. That’s why I regard the making of a film about poverty and what it leads to as my contribution to the society in which I live. But the story of the „Gritty Eyes“ is also my expression of the belief that people always have a choice to change for the better, no matter how bad are the cards dealt against them by life. As much as my film might feature elements of a social commentary, it is above all a personal drama, a coming-of-age story concerning a fraction of human experience that keeps reappearing throughout the history of mankind."
